Bioenvironmental Studies


The Office of Research Facilities (ORF) collaborates on bioenvironmental research to improve indoor air quality and save energy in biomedical laboratories; and animal research and health care facilities. The Principal Investigator for Research Facilities is Dr. Farhad Memarzadeh (fm30c@nih.gov). The results of these studies have been adopted as national and international standards for labs and hospitals. Among the organizations, institutions and conferences that have adopted or use ORF-applied facility studies are:​

  • American National Standards Institute (ANSI)

  • American Society of Heating, Refrigerating​, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE)

  • The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Academy of Architecture for Health (AAH)​​

  • The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA)​
