Bioenvironmental Studies


The Office of Research Facilities (ORF) collaborates on bioenvironmental research to improve indoor air quality and save energy in biomedical laboratories, and animal research and health care facilities. The Principal Investigator for Research Facilities is Dr. Farhad Memarzadeh (fm30c@nih.gov). The results of these studies have been adopted as national and international standards for labs and hospitals. Among the organizations, institutions and conferences that have adopted or use ORF-applied facility studies are

  • National Institute of Building Sciences Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG)

  • Other federal agencies and departments (Centers for Disease Control [CDC], Department of Energy [DOE], Department of Administration [DOA], Food and Drug Administration [FDA], etc.)
