NIH Northwest Child Care Center (NWCCC)

The vibrant new LEED Silver NIH Northwest Childcare Center (NWCCC), is a 21,000 square foot facility that opened in June 2017. It provides convenient, affordable, and high quality child care for the NIH community and directly supports the recruitment and retention of high caliber researchers at the NIH.

Design and Construction

  • Site-specific design overcame a challenging sloped topography.  Numerous stormwater management structures were incorporated into the site design as well as environmentally friendly sidewalks, paving, and a green roof.

  • Playgrounds and interior spaces were designed to foster a play based learning environment which integrates with the natural setting.

  • The building is LEED certified to optimize water and energy efficiency based on the US Green Building Council's latest requirements for new buildings.

Functional groups: Entry Functions, Administrative Functions, Classroom Areas, Service Areas, Outdoor Play Area
