The Center for Information Technology (CIT) Data Center provides NIH with a central computing and networking resource for both scientific and administrative information processing systems. Due to rapidly growing service demands, the data center required an infrastructure upgrade to ensure that needed computing power could continue to grow. This data center also supports a number of Health & Human Services (HHS) agency-wide applications.
The infrastructure upgrade included the installation of a fourth 2500 kVA Continuous Power Supply (CPS), a rotary diesel generator, and related electrical equipment to provide backup power. Additional installations included platform fencing for all four CPS units, a fire sprinkler pump, a SCADA system, and an outside air intake system.
